Job Summary

We are seeking engineers to design and optimize mechanisms for ensuring the reliable and stable functioning of optical systems in quantum computer experimental equipment. This role involves creating structures that maximize the functionality of laser-based systems, rather than simply manufacturing lasers. You will collaborate with top scientists to shape the entire device from research demonstration units to customer-delivered products.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize optical component mechanisms
  • Perform integrated layout and interface design
  • Execute precision mechanism design with FEM/thermal analysis
  • Manage drawing issuance, quality control, and assembly procedures

Required Skills

  • 3+ years mechanical design experience
  • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks/Fusion)
  • Experience with precision/optical machinery
  • Business level English and Japanese

Job Details

### Specific Job Responsibilities - Mechanism design, modularization, and optimization of optical components (mirrors, lenses, mounts, SLMs, AOMs, etc.) used in atomic trap optical tweezers, control light, and imaging optical systems. - Overall optical system layout design and integrated interface design with vacuum chambers and objective lens surrounds. - Precision mechanism design considering the rigidity, thermal expansion, and vibration characteristics of optical component mounts (including FEM analysis and thermal analysis). - Issuance of drawings to processing manufacturers, processing instructions, component acceptance inspection, and quality control. - Design of assembly and adjustment processes, development of procedure manuals, on-site supervision and feedback. - Establishment of integrated interface design and adjustment procedures between precision positioning mechanisms such as hexapods and piezo mirrors and optical systems. - Specification formulation and implementation in collaboration with scientists and optical engineers at the Institute for Molecular Science, Kyoto University. - Design development and documentation from research demonstration units to customer-delivered units. ### Required Skills/Experience - At least 3 years of practical experience in mechanical design. - Experience in mechanism design and drawing creation using CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion, etc.). - Experience in machining, assembly, and adjustment of precision machinery (including practical experience in component precision and tolerance design). - Experience in mechanism design of high-precision systems such as optical systems, precision measuring instruments, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. - Basic knowledge of optics (understanding of the impact of optical paths, optical component functions, and mounting precision on optical performance). - A learning attitude that allows you to independently grasp technical specifications and papers in unfamiliar domains. - English: Business level. - Japanese: Business level. ### Desired Skills/Experience - Experience in mechanical design for vacuum and cryogenic environments. - Experience in designing and modifying optical component mounts, breadboards, and optical tables. - Experience in mechanical design of equipment including optical devices such as AOM, SLM, and AWG. - Experience utilizing simulations such as FEM analysis, thermal design, and vibration analysis. - Experience reading or researching papers on atomic and molecular physics, cold atoms, and optical traps. - Experience in design transition from research prototypes to customer-delivered machines.
